Course Description

This seminar is designed to improve your knowledge of contracts and how the lack of this knowledge and your

actions can commit your company to unwanted liability. Topics will cover; knowing what constitutes a legal contract and when it is appropriate to seek legal advice, understand how to stay out of trouble by knowing what is appropriate to communicate to a supplier or customer, understand what the clauses in a supplier or customers contract really means, understand who in your organization can legally sign a contract for your company, and a true definition of contract management.

You will learn to:

*Identify the elements of a valid contract.

*Know and understand basic contracts terms.

*Identify different types of contracts and cost containment strategies.

*Understand the importance of a statement of work.

*Understand why it is risky to sign someone else’s contract.

*Know which laws govern a specific contract.

*Understand provisions and clauses that are common in contracts

*Know what clauses are a must for a contract and which ones must be eliminated

*Understand your role in a contract formation and administration and the necessity for contract periodic re-views.

Speaker Bio

John Nichols brings over 35 years of experience in purchasing and supply management. This experience includes

maintenance, repair and operating expense, industrial, and retail purchasing along with contracted services in

maintenance, facilities, production equipment, distribution and Corporate Purchasing. He is currently the Director of Corporate Purchasing at Schneider National Inc., where he is accountable for the sourcing and selection of

maintenance, repair and operating expenses. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and an associate degree in Finance from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College. He is also a current member of the Institute of Supply Management
